THROWING OUT THE BABY WITH THE BAATHISTS

Donald Rumsfeld is now saying that critics of George Bush are suffering from "moral or intellectual confusion" over America's true enemies (the fascists and the terrorists) and are too cowardly to fight back. Instead, Rumsfeld insists, Americans would rather appease the fascists, ala Chamberlain, Lindbergh, and Joe Kennedy Sr.

I have a very nice photo of a grinning Rumsfield shaking hands with Saddam Hussein in 1983. Donald appeared to have no problem appeasing Saddam as a common enemy of Iran. Sure he knew Saddam had committed terrible atrocities against his own people. No marriage is perfect.

For certain, fascists and terrorists are everywhere these days, yet fascists and terrorists, especially the Shock-and-Awe troopers in our government, rarely know who they are. And Mr. Rumsfeld is still desperately trying to connect Saddam to 9/11.

As Americans go about their way trying to distance themselves from the breathtakingly undemocratic Mr. Bush, there is little confusion, moral or otherwise, over the administration's wisdom in (as Bill Maher put it on HBO) throwing out the baby with the Baathists.

There are now 100,000 fewer Iraqi's to save from Baathist cleansing. Thanks to George Bush and his ineptly-fought war, those Iraqis we didn't cleanse, ethnically cleansed themselves. By dismantling Iraq's army, police and infrastructure, our idiot president left victim to anarchy and sectarian murder the very people he was allegedly trying to save.

Of course, Mr. Bush wasn't trying to save anyone but himself. He was a fool, fooled by Osama bin Laden into a war of civilizations. It's really quite embarrassing for two thirds of Americans and most of the world to watch.

Insinuating Saddam into the attacks of 9/11 has been the game plan of the Bush administration all along. Our president shunned his intelligence reports, his arms inspectors on the ground, the United Nations, and even his own father regarding the non-existent threat posed by Iraq, not to mention the perils of a Christian occupation of a Muslim country.

Meanwhile, the legions of fascists and terrorists who are trying to do us in, including the nuclear states of North Korea and Iran, are strengthening exponentially as Iraq descends deeper into civil war. With this sorry state as a backdrop, Mr. Rumsfeld chastises the media for paying more attention to the Abu Ghraib torture scandal than Sgt. 1st Class Paul Ray Smith's medal of honor.

Is he pulling our puds?

Personally, I preferred America prior to W. Sure, we had some tough lessons to learn in Vietnam, but who knew? Now, unless I'm visiting a Red state and want to live long enough to see my grandchildren, I have trouble admitting that I'm an American.

CNN, my largest competitor, just ran a poll on who would win a debate on world issues: President Bush or Iranian President Ahmadinejad?

The Results? Bush 38% -- Ahamdinejad 62%. Ouch. And that's if it was held in English!

Rumsfeld needs to look at more of these news polls before shooting his mouth off defending the already discredited President.
